I have had the privilege of serving the LGBTQ+ and nonbinary community for many years with counseling and psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and families, including gender expansive teens. I worked for several years in San Francisco where I had the opportunity to serve the community and worked with my first Transgender patient in 1994. Although this is an exciting time for LGBTQ+ rights, more and more couples and families are coming for help with their blended families and the stressors of everyday family life. I provide affirmative, sensitive counseling in a non-judgmental and supportive emotional environment.
Supportive psychotherapy can be helpful for those who are in the process of coming out, gender change, and gender affirmation surgeries. It is an exciting time that is fraught with social, emotional, and psychological adjustments for both you and your loved ones. Therapy can also help one better understand and accept oneself as well as help parents and loved ones understand, accept, and support who you are. Often transgender individuals who have transitioned and are in the midst of their lives come to therapy to discuss other matters that are unrelated to being trans.
Important Note: I am strongly against any “therapy” that seeks to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity, or in any way pathologizes homosexual, bisexual, asexual, pansexual, nonbinary, or transgender behavior or orientation. Therapy with the goal of changing one’s orientation or identity can be very harmful and fortunately in some states is now illegal. The goal of therapy is to help you BE who you are-not change it.
I fully support gender affirmation surgery and medical transition (e.g., hormone therapy). As a cisgender female, I continually seek training and education so that I may stay current and improve my ability to serve the community.
Please contact me to discuss how I may best be of assistance to you and your loved ones.
